Durham F.A. Women’s County Cup.

Thursday evening 10th April 2008-04-12 ground, Norton & Stockton Ancients

Darlington R.A. 1  3  Peterleee

The 3-1 win over DarlingtonR.A. in the women’s Durham County Cup cost Peterlee dearly. Left back Leanne Kemp, broken arm,  Simone Laverick  badley cut shin. Jade Ridley lost three teeth and a hair line fracture of the lower jaw.

Darlington R.A. 2nd from top in the N/E Premier league started more confident than Peterlee, but GK Claire Normandale wasn’t troubled due to the excellent defending of Rae Taylor and Sam Hill. Peterlee’s strong and pacey game started to peg back R.A. Claire Bridgette hitting the post with a confident shot beating the keeper. A Rae Taylor’s corner never got cleared and jade Ridley shot hard in to the lower corner making it 1-0 toPeterlee. Simone Laverick a new member of the club this season played well beyond her 16 years of age, running with peace and accurate crossing from the right wing. A free kick was delivered from Rae Taylor to the back post and the poor clearance dropped to Simone Laverick who blasted it into the top corner  half time 2-0 to peterlee. Darlington came out the stronger team believing there was still a game to be won.  A controversial decision seemed to turn the game, The ref give R.A. a goal when it seemed to  go in the bottom corner  but on closer inspection and appeals from the Peterlee players showing  the ball was outside of the side netting. So the goal was disallowed.
The game flowed from end to end, but a quick break down Peterlee’s right wing with a perfect cross to Vicky mudd turning the defender and hitting a screamer with her left foot giving peterlee breathing space with a 3-0 lead. The rain started to pour and they were two very tired teams, by this time Peterlee had made three substitution and R.A. pulled a goal back with 5 minuets to go, but Peterlee held on to the end. Winning 3-1. Jade Ridley who broke 3 teeth with a clash gong up for the ball would not come off deciding she was fit enough to play to the end, and she was still winning headers , she quoted at the end of the game **** happens but it was worth it.
